Our History
In the fall of 2020 the Lord called Pastor and Mrs. Young to move, by faith, to Bowling Green, Kentucky, to establish the Liberty Baptist Church. When the Young's moved to Bowling Green in September of 2020, they did not know anyone. As they worked to establish the church, their plan was to begin holding Sunday services in a room at the Sloan Convention Center and Wednesday Bible studies in the garage of the home they were renting in town. For several weeks they knocked on doors, shared the Gospel, and invited folks to join them for their "Grand Opening" service later that fall. They simply did their part, and trusted God to do His... and He did!
Within 2 weeks of the "Grand Opening" Sunday for LBC, the Lord allowed Pastor and Mrs. Young to meet Bro. Jr. and Mrs. Patty Sledge who were longstanding members of the Glen Lily Baptist Church which was established in 1923. Due to covid and the recent retirement of their former pastor, the church had closed its doors for 9 months. Through a series of events which God clearly had a hand in, the Youngs were introduced to several precious folks who made up the remaining membership of the church. After much time in prayer, the Lord knit the hearts of the people with Pastor and Mrs. Young; and the decision was made to merge the two churches into what today is Liberty Baptist Church at Glen Lily.
To God be the glory, since that time and up to the present the LORD has continued to work through the church to see over 500 souls saved with over 150 following in Believer's baptism, and a steady stream of new visitors and families who have come to see what God is doing at the Liberty Baptist Church at Glen Lily. Through the sacrifice, prayers, and giving of God's people, the buildings (which turned 100 years old in 2023) have been remodeled and updated, a church bus and van have been purchased (and used to provide weekly transportation for adults, teens, and children to the services). Children's Sunday school, youth programs/activities, and an organized nursery department have been added to the weekly program of the church, along with multiple visitation and soul-winning times where the membership meets to go together from house to house inviting folks to attend church and sharing the Gospel with those who do not yet know Christ.
We believe that the best and most exciting years are ahead for Liberty Baptist Church at Glen Lily! And it is our desire to be used of the LORD to help do our part in reaching our community and world for Christ through the preaching, teaching, and propagating of the Word of God! Mark 16:15 "And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature."
